The ETIAS scam check

Over 100 fake ETIAS sites are already live, selling a document that does not yet exist. Here are five checks that take two minutes — and yes, they apply to us too.

The five tests

• 1. Do they take ETIAS payments today? The EU portal is not open, so nobody can lodge an application for you. A site charging for an ETIAS right now fails instantly.
• 2. Do they look official? EU flags, "official portal" wording, governmental styling — only europa.eu is official. Everyone else is a private company, and honest ones say so in plain sight.
• 3. Is the €20 government fee shown separately? One bundled price means you can't see the markup. Fee transparency is the single most reliable tell in this category.
• 4. Do they guarantee approval? Nobody can. Decisions rest solely with the EU. A guarantee is a lie by construction.
• 5. Do they link the free official portal? A legitimate service tells you where to apply for free, because its value has to survive that disclosure. If the official link is missing, ask what's being hidden.
